On September 25, 2026, Ovidiu Daniel Ciupac defended his doctoral thesis at the Doctoral School of Communication, Public Relations and Advertising (SDCRPP), Faculty of Political, Administrative and Communication Sciences (FSPAC), Babeș-Bolyai University.
The doctoral dissertation, entitled “Communication of Environmental Sustainability in the Context of Music Festivals in Romania and Germany,” explores sustainability communication within the music festival sector, with a comparative focus on Romania and Germany. The thesis was written and defended in German.
The doctoral research was conducted under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Meda Mucundorfeanu.
The doctoral committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Delia Balaban and brought together academics from Romania and Germany. The committee members were Prof. Dr. Ramona Kusche, Hochschule Mittweida, Germany; Assoc. Prof. Adina Palea, Politehnica University Timișoara; and Assoc. Prof. Veronica Câmpian, Babeș-Bolyai University.
The dissertation addresses the increasingly important intersection between environmental sustainability, strategic communication, and the cultural and creative industries. By examining the communication of ecological sustainability in the context of music festivals in two European countries, the research contributes to the academic discussion on how sustainability principles and practices are communicated to festival audiences and other relevant stakeholders.
