The Doctoral School of Communication, Public Relations and Advertising at the Faculty of Political, Administrative and Communication Sciences (FSPAC), Babeș-Bolyai University, is pleased to announce a special book presentation event highlighting the academic achievements of its doctoral researchers and the dissemination of their research through international scholarly publishing.

The event will take place on Friday, October 30, 2026, at 12:00 PM, at FSPAC2, 85 Minerilor Street, Cluj-Napoca.

A central focus of the event will be the presentation of three academic books published by Springer VS as outcomes of doctoral research. These publications demonstrate how research developed during PhD studies can evolve into internationally published scholarly contributions, bringing new perspectives to contemporary debates in communication and media studies.

The publications represent important milestones in the academic trajectories of their authors and reflect the diversity of research topics addressed within the doctoral field of communication sciences:

  • Alfred Ludovic Fellner – Lösungsorientierter Fotojournalismus: Die Wirkung von lösungs- und problemorientierten Klimabildern. The book investigates the effects of solution-oriented and problem-oriented climate imagery, contributing to research on visual communication, photojournalism, and climate change communication.
  • Eduard-Claudiu Gross – Disinformation Countermeasures in the Digital Era: The Role of Literacy, Debunking, and Deepfake Awareness. The volume examines approaches to countering digital disinformation, focusing on media literacy, fact-checking and debunking strategies, and awareness of deepfake technologies.
  • Sonia Maloș – Die Selbstdarstellung von Jugendlichen in den sozialen Medien: Die Nutzung von Augmented-Reality-Filtern. The publication explores adolescents’ self-presentation practices on social media, with particular attention to the use of augmented reality filters and their implications for digital identity construction.

The event will also feature the presentation of Communicating Identities, an edited volume coordinated by Ramona-Gabriela Hosu and Ioan Hosu and published by Presa Universitară Clujeană. The volume includes research conducted by PhD students and researchers. This collective publication brings together perspectives on the complex relationships between communication and identity.

The books will be presented by Prof. Ioan Hosu Ph.D., Assoc. Prof. Veronica Campian Ph.D., Julia Ruz Cañadillas (Szambolics) Ph.D., and Mihai Lisei Ph.D., with prof. Delia Balaban Ph.D. moderating the discussion.

Beyond introducing the four publications, the event aims to highlight the importance of doctoral research as a foundation for academic publishing and knowledge production. It will provide an opportunity to reflect on the process of transforming doctoral dissertations into scholarly books, the challenges of international publishing, and the role of doctoral schools in supporting research excellence and academic visibility.

The meeting will also encourage dialogue between doctoral students, supervisors, researchers, and faculty members on emerging topics and research directions in communication sciences.
