BabeČ™-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca (UBB), as a partner of the British Council Romania, invites students and researchers, studying or working in the field of science (mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology, technology, engineering, medicine), to register until March 31st, 2021, for the international competition in science communication “FameLab – Science for a Better Future”.

The theme of the FameLab 2021 competition in Romania is Science for a better future and aims to bring to the fore the essential role that scientific discoveries and technological developments have in solving the major problems of our world, from medical challenges to climate change.

To enter the contest, participants must complete the online form available on https://bit.ly/2OcGROo until March 31st and choose the online selection in which they will have their presentation. The selection event will be organized by UBB online, at a later date communicated to the participants (no later than April 19).

FameLab competitors have only 3 minutes to impress the audience and the jury with a presentation of a scientific topic, without using PowerPoint presentations or other auxiliary materials. The presentation must be entertaining, original, have scientific rigor and capture the attention of the uninformed public. Presentations are evaluated based on three criteria: content, clarity and charisma.

Following the selection, the competitors for the national final FameLab Romania will be designated, who will benefit from a communication masterclass given by specialists from Great Britain and Romania.

The winner of the national final FameLab Romania 2021 will have the opportunity to represent the country at the global final FameLab International, organized in the fall of this year.

The FameLab competition, in its 12th edition in Romania, is organized by the British Council and the Cheltenham Science Festival with the support of partner universities and science organizations in the country.

Organized in over 20 countries and with a network of over 10,000 students, researchers or STEM professionals from universities, organizations and research centers around the world, FameLab is the largest global science communication competition.

The FameLab competition aims to give a voice on the global stage to science students and professionals who can communicate their work to the public, in order to promote understanding and support for research and reduce gaps in science education.
