PhD Candidate Silvestru-Iulian Calinciuc, from the Doctoral School of Communication, Public Relations and Advertising (FSPAC, Babeș-Bolyai University), is participating in the international conference “Declaring Deaf People’s Human Rights”, held from 24–26 September 2026 at the Seraphicum Conference Hall in Rome, Italy, hosted by the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD).
Silvestru Iulian presented with Australian researcher and Associate Professor at Heriot-Watt University, Dr. Robert Adam, on “Deaf People in Research: Participation, Leadership and Power,” highlighting the importance of PhD Deaf Candidates and Defenders of the disciplines in the context of Deaf Leadership PhDs.

During the event, which also celebrated the International Day of Sign Languages, Silvestru participated in key discussions on Deaf history, accessibility, communication barriers, anti-discrimination efforts, Sign Language, and Deaf Studies.
His participation provided valuable opportunities to receive feedback from coordinators and members while actively contributing to discussions on Deaf Studies and Sign Language.
Silvestru-Iulian Calinciuc also serves as a Coordinator in Sign Language and Deaf Studies for the World Federation of the Deaf, headquartered in Helsinki, Finland (see page World Federation of the Deaf – Members Team).
