Silvestru – Iulian CALINCIUC, a PhD candidate in Communication Sciences, supervised by Prof. Univ. Dr. Ioan HOSU at the Faculty of Political, Administrative and Communication Sciences within the BBU, and a scientific research assistant on the PNRR III C9 2022 I8 CF26 – DIGIEFFECT project, participated in a conference for doctoral students, delivering a scientific presentation titled „Research Methods and Strategies for Studying Communication in Sign Language among Deaf/Hard of Hearing Students in Academic Contexts. Case Study: The Deaf Community at Babeș-Bolyai University” held on May 8, 2026, and organized by the University of Bucharest.

Deaf Studies are not limited; they are most important, especially as the number of topics increases. Deaf Academics Spaces mean more Deaf community researchers and teaching in Sign Language, such as Gallaudet University (Washington, D.C.), Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) (National Technical Institute for the Deaf, Rochester, New York State), and Tsukuba University of Technology (Tsukuba, Ibaraki, Japan).
The case study on Babeș-Bolyai University (BBU) includes 10 deaf/HoH students: 3 males and 7 females (7 – BA; 1 – MA; and 2 – PhD), and interpreters in Romanian Sign Language (LSR) at the CSD (The Center for Students with Disabilities).
