Oana Diaconu, a physicist at the Oncology Institute “Prof. Dr. Ion Chiricuță” in Cluj-Napoca and a first-year PhD student at Babeș-Bolyai University, participated in the ESTRO course Comprehensive and Practical Brachytherapy, held in Ljubljana, Slovenia, between 22–25 March 2026. Her participation was supported by the International Atomic Energy Agency through the TC Sponsored Participation program.
The course provided an in-depth and clinically oriented overview of modern brachytherapy techniques, covering multiple treatment sites including prostate, breast, gynecological, and head and neck cancers. The program combined theoretical lectures with hands-on sessions in treatment planning, contouring, and applicator use, as well as discussions on radiation safety, dose optimization, and quality assurance.
This experience contributed to strengthening her expertise in brachytherapy within the context of her doctoral studies, conducted under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Lucian Baia.
