We are thrilled to announce that Alexandru Holca, PhD student at the Doctoral School of Physics, Faculty of Physics, Babeș-Bolyai University, is first author of an article recently published in ACS Applied Nano Materials. His work was also chosen for the front cover of Volume 8, Issue 41 (17 October 2025).

The paper, entitled “LED-Activated NIR-II Gold Nanorods for Photothermal Therapy of 3D Melanoma Spheroids,” presents an innovative approach to light-driven cancer therapy using low-power LED sources instead of conventional lasers. This work highlights the potential of LED-driven thermoplasmonics as a safer, scalable, and cost-effective alternative for non-invasive photothermal cancer therapy.

Congratulations to Alexandru Holca, his co-authors, and the coordinator Assoc. Prof. Monica Focșan for this outstanding contribution to the field of nanobiophotonics!
