On May 23, 2024, the doctoral candidate Jens Heinrich defended his thesis focused on digital event communication within the Doctoral School Communication, PR, and Advertising of the Faculty of Political, Administrative, and Communication Sciences of the Babes-Bolyai University (BBU) Cluj-Napoca. Jens Heinrich registered in the European PhD Program of the Babes-Bolyai University and, therefore, an international doctoral committee, including professors from Austria and Germany alongside the scientific supervisor Prof. Delia Cristina Balaban (Balas) PhD, Prof. Flaviu Calin Rus PhD, and Prof. Ioan Hosu PhD as president assessed the thesis as ‘very good.’ The PhD student used a mixed methodological approach, including interviews with experts and an experiment. Hence, experts working in the field of event communication in Germany and Romania were interviewed by Jens Heinrich about the opportunities and challenges of digital and hybrid events. Furthermore, an experiment conducted during a live event organized in Germany was an appropriate opportunity to test the cognitive, affective, and behavioral outcomes of live communication on-site versus on desktop versus smartphone. As Jens Heinrich pointed out during his presentation, the research has theoretical and practical implications. Thus, live digital communication is effective in business-to-business communication.
